College Career Awareness:
In our College Career class, students have opportunities to explore their college/career options through research. Many young students don’t even know what they want to be in the future. Some say “I am not going to college because I don’t want to study.” However, the majority of students have a strong desire to have enough earnings in the future to support their families. The benefits of career exploration opportunities improve the attitudes of students about their career possibilities, helping to motivate them to work toward their future goals. Therefore, it is important for students to explore their career options because expanding their career knowledge encourages them to develop inner motivation and the willingness to work toward their future goals.
Fashion Design Studio:
In our Fashion Design Studio class, students have the opportunity to not only design a variety of styles but also have the opportunity to learn how to sew. Sewing is one of the life skills that could become handy throughout their life, and it is also a mindful activity that they can use as their coping skills or simply just a hobby which they can enjoy and be creative. For students to be able to sew, they need to learn the mechanical functions of the sewing machine and need to practice sewing straight and curved lines repeatedly. During the process of learning how to sew, some students struggle to keep up and they could become discouraged. I love watching them work eagerly to obtain sewing skills but also at the same time, it is a great opportunity for me to build a relationship with each student through coaching them individually. Students are always looking forward to the completed projects and sometimes they lose the patience to sew carefully. When they are done with their projects, they are excited and feel competent about what they have achieved. It is a rewarding experience for both students and me, and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to teach this subject.
